I read a lot, as many of you know. And I've recently started posting tidbits of the books I read (okay, I've done it once so far...), because I feel the information will be useful or at least entertaining for others. My most recent book is "a total waste of makeup," where the main character (in between the plot) is writing a book of advice for her great grand-daughter, or niece... and here are some of my favorite pearls of wisdom. :)
-Don't wait by the phone (for a guy to call)
-Never chase a man. Let him chase you.
-If you've been dating someone for a year, you KNOW if you want to marry them or not. Fish or cut bait. Either get married, or set them free. And if a man you've dated for a year hasn't proposed- definitely cut bait.
-Never subject your daughter to your wedding dress. Styles have changed.
-Repeat this mantra when down about men: "I don't need a lover, just several really close friends."
-Don't play dumb.
-The heart has a mind of its own.
-Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. -Albert Einstein
-Never judge someone by the car they drive.
-All men under forty look hot in tuxedos. All men over forty look distinguished.
-Don't go out with a man just because he looks good on paper. You're not kissing paper.
-Don't ever be afraid to be alone.
-Some days are a total waste of makeup.
-Don't hold a grudge for 30 years.
-Everything happens for a reason.
-Be yourself. Don't try to impress anyone. YOU'RE ENOUGH ON YOUR OWN.
-Don't do anything in life just to get someone else's approval. Yours is the only one that matters.
-No matter how you feel, or what you've done, take comfort in knowing that someone, somewhere, has been in the same position you're in, and has felt the same feelings you are feeling right now.
-On the first date, see how he treats the waiter. That's how he'll be treating you in six months.
-When you get really depressed at how unfair the world is, remember: half the planet didn't get a clean drink of water today.
-A good long talk can cure almost anything.
-Never give someone a present that's "for their own good."
-Chase your dreams daily. Not just the big ones... but chase the little ones. If you dream of having an ice cream cone one day, go out and get one. If you dream of going to the beach another day, jump into your car and go.
-Embrace all cultures.
-No one likes to be judged. If you're going to advice someone, do it without judgement.
-Never scold someone. Making someone feel bad about themselves shouldn't make you feel better about yourself.
-You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. -Wayne Gretzky
-You should never have a job you hate so much you think "Thank God it's Friday" every week of your life.
-In five hundred years, none of this will matter.
-When a friend is in pain, usually all you need to do is shut up and listen.
-Men aren't stupid, and you don't need a complicated set of rules to find a good one who loves you. Here's the only rule you need: If a man loves you, he will do ANYTHING he can to keep you around. Anything.
-Breaking up is hard to do. Do it anyway.
-Midwesterners can be just as snobby as Hollywood people or New Yorkers. It's just a different kind of snobbery.
-When you don't know what kind of person you're dealing with, always address them as "ma'am" or "sir." It immediately conveys respect- even if you're not feeling any.
-You don't chose love, love choses you.
-It's the friends you can call up at 4 am that matter. -Marlene Dietrich
